You can see the empty spaces where the old streets used to be after demolishion. There was a Reservoir St close to reservoir then a Third St,a Second St,and a First St ending beside Wardley Lane that went over the Pelaw to Sunderland railway bridge to Bill Quay bridge.

This was Wardley Village's reservoir, and as you can see very close to it is the Methodist Chapel & Infant School

Wardley's original Colliery which a few years later was modernised with new Offices, Canteen,Medical Centre, Locker rooms, Shower blocks, Lamp rooms etc etc. Underground a 2000 yard roadway with rail lines was created to go to Follonsby and then onto Usworth Colliery
